CONTEXT/Phase 0101 of 11

01The brief

The pix4d.com redesign, and the library it asks for.

The ask

Pix4D is redesigning pix4d.com — the whole site, keeping the same elements and the same content. The ask is a component library in Figma: the building blocks of the new site, documented and handed to engineers to build. A sensible brief, and the usual way this work gets done. We’d like to question just one part of it: the handoff.

What the brief asks

01

Redesign pix4d.com

A new face for the site that presents the products, the industries, and the company.

02

A component library

Reusable building blocks — navigation, banners, cards, footers — designed once, used everywhere.

03

Built in Figma

What the brief asks for: a Figma library, organised and documented so it can be reused.

04

Handed off to engineers

The designs and notes pass from the design team to engineering, who then build the library.

05The catch

Every step is a translation

The original design idea changes hands three times before it goes live. Each handover can lose a little. That is where this proposal starts.

Next

On the surface, this plan works. Teams do it this way every day. But the handoff in the middle has a price — and the next phase puts it on the table.
